I am a curly girl. I started my natural hair journey a few years ago now. My sister was my inspiration. My sister has beautiful naturally curly hair. She is fearless when it comes to her hair. She will chop it off in a heartbeat with no regrets. Of course, it helps that her hair grows like a chia pet. Seriously. Did you know those things are edible? Chia seeds, I mean. Yeah, they are like some big thing right now. They’re supposed to be really healthy for you. Who knew?
I digress. My curly hair journey has had its ups and downs. It was a challenge to do the whole big chop thing. What I did was stopped perming my hair and put braids in to help it grow out. Then, I went for the big chop. I went to get my hair straightened, dyed, and cut into a bob. Of course, I evidently had lost my mind thinking that dying my hair would be a good thing, because it caused my hair to break off. Totally my fault. I
was am too lazy to take care of my hair the way it requires when it is dyed. I kept my hair straight for a little while, but then decided to just see what my hair would do if I went curly like my sister. My hair’s texture is not as curly as hers, but I liked the way it looked with the natural curl.
I have been trying different products ever since I’ve started my natural hair journey. I was super excited to try the new line of curly hair products from LeKair. I got to try everything pictured above: shampoo and conditioner, curl rejuvenating spray, and curl defining cream. The shampoo and conditioner has avocado oil to soften and hydrate your hair. It smells so good! The shampoo also detangles. Every curly girl knows that detangling is a must. And it’s more comfortable to detangle with good shampoo and conditioner on your hair. Here’s what my curls look like using the shampoo, conditioner, and curl defining cream.
And just for reference, here is what my hair looks like by itself:
Yeah, it’s a pretty drastic difference. I used the shampoo first, obviously. It lathers up really well and leaves my hair feeling super clean. Then, I use the conditioner generously. When I have the conditioner in my hair, I also comb my hair. I hate having to comb my hair but it has to be done at some point. I section my hair into five or six sections and start combing my hair from the tips to the roots. Yes, from the tips to the roots. Why? Years ago I saw on BET that you should comb your hair that way and I’ve done it since then. When I finish combing one section, I give it a loose braid and move on to the next section. Once I’ve finished all sections, I unbraid them all and rinse out the conditioner. I follow up with the curl defining cream. That is what got the results you saw in the first picture of me.
I have a little boy who has curls, too. I sometimes use the curl spray on his curls before I brush his hair. It helps give his curls extra shine and definition. I only use it when his hair is kind of long. If he’s gone a few weeks without a hair cut, he can rock his curls with LeKair hair spray. I actually had a picture of him with LeKair spray on his curls on my old phone. That phone actually just deleted the hundreds of pictures I had on there…pictures all the way from the time my little boy was a baby. It hurt that I couldn’t get those pictures back but I learned how to backup my pictures automatically so that will never happen again.
I have tried a lot of hair products. Some have been good for my hair, and some, not so much. I like LeKair’s line of products for curly hair. They help my hair. I think that when you have natural hair, you have to find what’s right for you. Some products that have worked for you might do nothing to tame my curls but I am curious to know: what natural hair products do you swear by? How did you start your natural hair journey? Let me know in the comments.
