Make Make Money Mystery Shopping, is it Right for you?

A lot of people are looking for a way to make some extra money working from home. Have you heard of mystery shopping? If you are anything like me when I first heard about it, I was curious but unsure of whether it was really something that I could do. I didn’t know if it was real or if was just a scam to get me to pay for something that didn’t really exist.

Here is my definition of mystery shopping. Mystery shopping is a way for consumers (you and I) to evaluate businesses and provide feedback, usually anonymously. It is a real job that really pays. You aren’t employed by the company that you provide a mystery shop for. You are an independent contractor. For example, if you do a mystery shop for McDonalds, you are not an employee of McDonalds.

You can choose which mystery shops you want to do and which ones you don’t want to do. You can also choose when you want to mystery shop. You do not have to have a set schedule everyday like you would with a regular job. You set up your mystery shops according to the time that you have available. You can do it as much or as little as you like. Obviously, the more you do it the more money you make.

Is mystery shopping right for you? I think mystery shopping is something that you might be interested in doing if:

1.) You like giving your opinion

When you fill out reports, you do have to give facts. But there is also the opportunity to give your opinions. This is the time for you to tell how you felt about your experience. Did the company that you shopped do a good job? Was it okay? Terrible? Companies want to know these things so that they can improve.

2.) You are detail-oriented

When you sign up for a mystery shop, there are certain criteria. Like when you enter a restaurant, how full was it? Was there music playing? Were most of the empty tables clean? Etc. It might not be something that you would automatically notice but after reading the requirements of the shop you should be able to pick up on these things when you get started with your shop.

3.) You are at least kind of organized

I’m not the most organized person so you don’t have to be super organized. But you do have to be organized enough that you can keep up with the shops that you are assigned. Nothing worse than flaking out on a shop. If you do that because you’ve forgotten, you might not get chosen to do mystery shops for that mystery shopping company anymore. The good news is that there are hundreds of other mystery shopping companies out there. The bad news is that you might miss out on some awesome mystery shops from the company that you flaked out on. Don’t flake out!

You should also make sure to be organized enough that you keep up with the requirements of the shop. If you are supposed to take pictures or get a business card for the shop you’ve done, make sure you do it! If you don’t you might not end up getting paid for your time. I have never NOT been paid for a shop and I’ve done hundreds. I think that mystery shopping companies want to pay you because they want you to continue to shop for them. If they don’t pay it must be because you didn’t fulfill your end of the bargain.

4.) You like trying new things

You might be interested in mystery shopping if you like trying new things. There are so many different types of mystery shops around that you won’t have to worry about getting bored. You can do fast food mystery shops, fine dining mystery shops, hotel mystery shops, and even go mystery shopping for a Coach purse. Those are just some types of shops that are available. If you want some variety, you can find it!

You might not like mystery shopping if:

1.)You don’t like keeping track of time.

You have to keep track of timings with some mystery shops. If you don’t like that, mystery shopping might not be for you.

2.) You are looking for something to make you rich quickly.

If you are looking for something that will allow you to get rich with little effort and little time, this is not for you. You can make good money as a mystery shopper but it is not a job that will get you rich. In my experience you can expect to get anywhere from $100-$600 per week. Some people make more and some make less. What you get depends on what you put into it.
