Now everyone could use a little extra money, amirite? One way that I recommend you to save money is to take advantage of cash back when you shop. There are many different ways to do this. One of my favorite ways is to get cash back rebates on my weekly grocery shopping using Ibotta. Ibotta is an app you can download on your phone to earn cash back on your groceries.

What is this Ibotta you speak of?

Ibotta is a free app that gives you rebates on items that you purchase that are on Ibotta’s rebate list. When you think rebate, you’re probably thinking about the old fill out a form, waste a stamp, wait six weeks rebate. That’s not how Ibotta is at all. You sign up to Ibotta, choose the items you want to buy, buy the items on your list, scan them and your receipt, and get cash back into your Ibotta account that you can redeem for cash back or gift cards. You can get a $10 sign up bonus by using my link here.  To get the bonus, you need to redeem one rebate. Don’t forget, you need to use the referral link to get the credit or else you start out at zero, like I did when I first downloaded Ibotta.

Well, I didn’t discover Ibotta until this summer around July. It was July 4th to be exact. I downloaded it to my phone, not really knowing what to expect. Little did I know, I would be earning over $110 in just five months using Ibotta. Here’s a screen shot of my account. Sorry it’s blurry but it was the best that I could get.

Before you go grocery shopping, you check out the rebates available on your Ibotta app and then purchase the items you want at the store. Then, you scan the items along with your receipt, and get a cash back rebate to your Ibotta account. Once you reach the super low threshold of just $20, you can transfer your money into your Paypal account or receive it as a gift card of your choice. Some of the gift cards available are Amazon, Sephora, iTunes, Olive Garden, Target, and Gap, just to name a few. There are many more too. You are sure to find a gift card that you can use. If not, think about how these are great gifts. The minimum amount you have to have in your account is $20 t0 get a gift card, but you can probably put as much as you’d like on a gift card. I can’t say, because I always cash out with that cold, hard  cash to my Paypal.

Optimizing your shopping trip with Ibotta

Here are a few tips I can give you to help you make the most cash back: take your device that has Ibotta with you and scan the items that you are going to buy in the store. Make a list of what you’d like to buy ahead of time. Sure, you can wait until after you purchase items and then just scan them when you come home, but I recommend you scan at the store because this is the best way to ensure that you get the correct product. I like to scan the items in the store to ensure that I’m purchasing the right product, because if you’re not careful you might pick up a product that is the wrong size or something.

Buying in bulk with Ibotta

Did you know that you could use Ibotta to buy in bulk? Well, you can actually use Ibotta along with another app called Boxed, and you’ll save money as well as get an awesome rebate! Have you ever shopped at Boxed.com? Boxed is like Sam’s Club except there are no membership fees and your things are shipped right to your door. No need to leave the house to shop for everyday household items! They also often offer percentage or money off coupons to their subscribers to really make the costs go down. Sign up for Boxed here, and get a $15 off coupon for your first order of $60 or more.

Okay, so now, if you’re like me and I KNOW you are, you’re wondering how you can combine the awesomeness that is Boxed with Ibotta. Good news! Boxed has a rebate on Ibotta! I got 20% back on my purchase at Boxed by shopping with Ibotta! That means that I got $13.43 on my order. So now you need to see what I orderd.

You have to complete your transaction by clicking on Ibotta and then click on the Boxed app’s rebate to unlock it. After that, shop with your Boxed app and you’ll get the rebate applied to whatever you purchase from Boxed. Their 20% discount is amazing!

Here’s what I ordered from Boxed for a total of $67.16. That’s before coupons or Ibotta. I had a -$15 coupon so my total out of pocket was $52.16 and it’s free shipping for anything over $49.

So my cost was $52.16 minus the money that I earned for shopping Boxed on the Ibotta app which turned out to be $13.43. My total out of pocket for the items above was just $38.73! And that is with the items shipped to my door!

I thought this was a fantastic cost for these items. I compared the items to what it would cost at WalMart.com since I would usually shop at WalMart. It would be $19.96 for the aluminum foil, $26 for the toilet paper (would get four extra rolls this way), $17.99 for the Tide and $4 for comparable hand soap for a total of $67.95 with no discount unless you were able to save a couple of dollars with coupons. I got these products for a steal at just $38.73. That’s almost half price!

Sign up to Ibotta and Boxed and let me know what awesome deals you are able to come up with!

Ibotta sounds like a magnificent program. I once signed up for a similar program, but they did not follow through with their promises. Ibotta seems to provide many more ways to save money. Thanks for the information.
