Do want to join the ranks of mystery shoppers across the United States (and really, the world) who are making money as mystery shoppers with Helion Research? Here’s the complete guide to get you started. It’s a detailed read so you might want to save it to Pinterest or bookmark it to come back to. Or share it to your Facebook timeline. Whatever you do, don’t leave this post without taking action. You’ll thank me for it later.

Helion Research is an international company that hires mystery shoppers all around the world to perform mystery shops and audits. So if you enjoy mystery shopping, or want to get into mystery shopping, Helion Research is a great company to get started with.

What exactly do I mean when I say mystery shopping?

Experienced mystery shoppers can skip this paragraph and move on. For those new to mystery shopping, I’ll break it down for you because mystery shopping is a term that has a very broad definition. It is a way for companies to measure the performance of their staff and often times reward them for their service.

Mystery shopping can be done while evaluating a business or service. Mystery shopping can be done while performing audits. Mystery shopping can even be done while watching a sporting event or going on a cruise. Mystery shopping is basically when a person is paid to evaluate services or products on behalf of a business.

What makes Helion special?

They have paying mystery shops in countries all around the world. They are all about looking out for the mystery shopper. They also have researchers with experience setting up projects that are fun and interesting. And Helion is a member of the MSPA- the Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

I don’t live in the U.S. Can I still become a mystery shopper for Helion?

Well, most of my readers are in the United States, but even if you are not in the U.S., you can still become a mystery shopper for Helion Research. They are a global company that has mystery shops available in countries all around the world. If you can read and understand this post, chances are Helion has a mystery shop in your country.

What are the requirements?

  • You have to be 18 or older
  • Be able to work on deadlines
  • Be dependable
  • Have a computer with internet access
  • Can effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Dependable transportation

One reason to choose Helion Research: Support

Helion has a community manager dedicated to supporting shoppers. My guy’s name is Miroslav and he speaks multiple languages. You get an email address and a phone number to your community manager. So whether you’re the type who likes to talk to someone on the phone or whether you’d prefer to see an email, you can get in contact with your community support manager with any questions you have about your mystery shop.

How can I get paid?

There are actually a couple of ways you can make money with Helion. The first way is mystery shopping, obviously. You can also make money referring friends as mystery shoppers. When they complete their first shop, you get paid. You can get payment to your Pay pal account on the 20th of the month after the month you did the shop. For example, if you do a mystery shop June 4th, you’ll get paid around July 20th. It is pretty standard for mystery shopping companies to pay in a month’s time.

Another benefit of becoming a shopper with Helion is the fact that they provide support through training. If you are a brand new shopper, you might be worried about being incapable of performing the tasks. Helion has a training portal that you complete before you are able to choose shops. This means that you will know everything you need to know to start shopping.

One of the things I like about Helion’s shopper portal is the map that shows the shops available in your area. This is the map that shows all the shops available in my area. I zoomed way out, but once you are zoomed in you can see the shops available. Check out this map below of the U.S. The head shaped object represents me. I’m waving to you.

Ready to give mystery shopping a try? Why don’t you sign up by clicking on the link below.

Make sure you sign up with Helion today. They have a round of shops coming up in May, which is just a few days away. You can make some extra money for your summer vacation with Helion Research if you sign up now before all the shops are gone. If you want to get your training done before you start your shops, go ahead and sign up as a shopper with Helion. Keep reading to see the steps you should take to sign up.

How do I sign up?

After you click Become a Helion Evaluator, you’ll see a screen like this where you fill out your personal information like name, email address, etc.

Then in step 2, you fill out your contact details.

Lastly, you fill out step 3. Once you have completed this step you’re on to the inside where you can start completing your profile. Completing your profile will take some time to complete, but you want to be thorough. The more thorough you are, the better you can be matched to mystery shops that are available in your area.

If you have been looking for a way to make extra money (and who hasn’t?!), you should consider mystery shopping with Helion. Helion is a great company to start with because of the support they offer to both new and seasoned shoppers. If you’re a new shopper, you won’t have the feeling that you’re left out there all alone without a clue of what to do because they train you and assign a community manager to you to make sure you are successful.

If you’ve mystery shopped before you will like the way the company treats their shoppers with respect and concern. They also pay you to do their mystery shops, and they even offer rewards for some shops.

Are there any of you out there with experience with Helion Research? If so, I’d love to hear from you. Leave me a comment below and share what you know with other potential shoppers.

Using Dealspotr to Save and Make Money

Use If you like saving and making money, and I know you do, you’ll love Dealspotr! Dealspotr is a new-ish website (started in 2015) that publishes all types of deals including those that can be gotten by a coupon, those that are awesome because they are a lower price than everywhere else, and those who have limited time discounts.

You can also make money or points that can be redeemed for gift cards when you do certain actions that help the Dealspotr community. If you use a coupon and validate it, you get points. If you add a post to the site, you get points. If you share with friends and they sign up (And post their first deal. More on that later.), you get points. All those points add up and give you cash money or gift cards to places you love to shop.

Being crowdsourced makes it better

There are several things about Dealspotr that I like that make it different from other sites. One thing that I noticed about Dealspotr that I like that makes it different from other deal sites is that it offers you points for posting your deals. On other deal sites you may be able to post deals, but you don’t always get compensated for it. On Dealspotr you have a motivation to share deals. When you share, everyone wins.

What I would suggest doing is searching in Dealspotr when you need to buy something. Search their first and you may be able to find whatever item you are looking for at the cheapest price around. Then when you purchase and validate a coupon code (if you used one), you’ll get points.  There are tons of deals posted daily so you can expect for there to be thousands upon thousands of deals on Dealspotr at any one given time.

Do you like money?

Well, I’ll just admit it. I like being rewarded with money. But, honestly, who doesn’t? Yes, you can share deals from other deal sites but Dealspotr rewards you do to so. You can earn extra shopping money by completing tasks and sharing deals on Dealspotr. And your deal feed is personalized so you will see products that you are most likely to be interested in instead of hunting long lists of random deals that may be great, but just not great for you.

And, you know what? I love Ebates and all, but you don’t have to buy anything to be rewarded from Dealspotr. Just sign up and share deals and get rewarded. If you’re going to shop anyway, you definitely want to get the best prices. Unless you like wasting money. If you do, no worries. That’s totally up to you. I’d just prefer not to do that myself.

Join Dealspotr and earn

You can join Dealspotr here. And I have a nice little surprise for you. When you join using my link, you will earn +5,000 points when you complete your new user checklist and post your first valid deal. You can either click my link  to sign up or use my code MYSTERYSHOPPINGTEACHER to get in on this. You know you want to.

Those 5,000 points will get $5 to Amazon! You can cash out when you get to $10 for an Amazon gift card. It took me probably less than 20 minutes to fill out my profile AND post my first deal. It may take you less than that to earn your 5,000 points. I currently have 4,065 points because I didn’t have a referral code when I signed up :(.

I mentioned above that you need to post your first deal to get credit for your 5,000 points. Here’s how to find a deal. You can find your deal from newsletters you are signed up to with companies you regularly shop with or you can do a search of a site like Jet, Groupon, or a similar site. Find a product that is a great price and write your very first post to earn those 5,000 points. It really is that easy. Then, let me know what you think about it.

Salted-Caramel Six Layer Chocolate Cake

Look at that cake. Just look at it. You KNOW this will be one of those amazing cakes that everyone talks about for years to come when you make it, right? Trust me. It is amazing. I can’t take credit for this recipe. It’s actually Martha Stewart’s. I didn’t really change too much from her recipe, but her recipe was a little difficult to follow at times so hopefully this one is a little easier to understand.

Trust me when I say this cake is worth all of the steps you have to go through to make it. It is one of those “wow” cakes that you make for special occasions when you want to impress someone with your baking prowess. It’s going to probably take you a couple of hours to do all the steps. Print this recipe out, read it a couple of times, and give it a go. If you are a salted caramel lover, you have to make this cake!

Ingredients for the cake:

    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3 cups granulated sugar
    • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
    • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons safflower oil
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 1/2 cup warm water
    • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped

Ingredients for the caramel:

    • 2 cups granulated sugar
    • 1/8 cup light corn syrup
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
    • 1 stick cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

Ingredients for the frosting:

    • 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp cocoa powder
    • 2 sticks room temperature unsalted butter
    • 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
    • 1 lb. semisweet chocolate chips melted and cooled
    • Kosher salt for topping

Prep time: 2 hours
Serves: 10-12

          1. Turn on your oven and preheat it to 350 degrees. Then start making the cake batter. Sift the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, baking powder, 1 1/2 tsp Kosher salt, and cocoa powder together into a bowl. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, vanilla, and 1 1/2 cups warm water. Beat until it all comes together.
          2. Pour batter into three pans evenly. Bake for about 30-35 minutes until the cake is cooked (check with a toothpick in the middle).
          3. While cake is baking, make the caramel. It’s best if you have a candy thermometer for this as the temperature needs to be exact. Combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir mixture constantly as it comes up to an amber color. It will take some time for this. Maybe 20 minutes or so. Be patient. It takes what it takes. When the amber color is reached, remove the pot from the heat and pour in the cream. The mixture will bubble up so be careful. Stir until cream is fully incorporated and then return the pan to the heat and let the mixture come up to 235 degrees. Once it reaches this temperature, take it off the heat and stir in the Kosher salt. After it has cooled for 15 minutes, stir in the cool butter a little bit at a time. Once all butter is incorporate, set caramel off to the side to cool.
          4. Now you can make the frosting. Whisk the cocoa and 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water until cocoa is dissolved completely. Beat the butter, confectioners sugar, and a pinch of Kosher salt with a mixer until creamed. Add the melted chocolate and cocoa mixture a little bit at a time. After all chocolate and cocoa is incorporated, let the frosting stand. It will need to stand for 30 minutes before you can use it.
          5. To make your six layer cake, you’ll need to trim the tops off of your cake to make a level surface. You need a serrated knife to do this. After you have cut all of the tops off of your cakes, cut the cakes into two layers by cutting through each of them through the middle (horizontally). Put your bottom layer down, and add 1/5 of your caramel to the top of that layer. Add the next layer and continue the pattern until you’ve added all layers and used all caramel. You won’t need caramel for the top layer because you are going to frost it with the frosting. Add the top layer and frost the entire cake all the way around the sides and the top. Sprinkle with a little Kosher salt. (Note: I kept those delicious cake tops that I cut off to make a dome cake. I totally just made up that name so I don’t know if it’s a real thing, but I took the three cake tops and made a little cake with them just using the leftover chocolate frosting to frost in between the layers and on top. No caramel since I used up all my caramel on the real cake. I sprinkled the top of my frosted dome cake with Kosher salt.)

So this is not going to be an easy cake to make. I consider myself to be an okay baker, and it was a little challenging because there were just so many different steps that needed to be done for this beauty. The caramel absolutely requires you to have a candy thermometer unless you are used to making candy. I’ve made candy before but for this recipe I still recommend a candy thermometer to ensure your caramel turns out just right. If you don’t cook it long enough, you will have runny caramel that will slide all over the place. If you cook it too long it will get hard. You can get a candy thermometer for a good price on Amazon and once you have it you’ll probably find all kinds of uses for it.

If you are a huge fan of salted caramel like I am, you will love this cake. I hope you give it a try and let me know how your cake turns out.
